Help with Forum Display options
On my site, one of the forum sections got to be too big and busy for a single forum. So we broke it up by creating a half-dozen sub-forums.
While some of the community likes it better now, there are "those who refuse to change" that are howling in protest because they want to see everything in one list. They don't want to have to click on each of the 6 sub-forums separately. Is there a way to have the best of both worlds, with some sort of query that would show them all threads in the forum section as well as in the sub-forums under that section? I've been able to do something close to this by using the getnew function, but that only shows threads containing new posts. That isn't good enough for these people. They want to see everything in a single listing. Any way to do this? I'm on 3.8.5, btw. |
I have been trying to get something like this for 2 years now, closest I came was adding a forum 'link' to return the last 10 days of all threads... it's a search query but looks like forum-home with an added column as to the originating forum of the thread,
the link is: http://www.YOURDOMAIN/forums/search....tdaily&days=10 assuming your forum is installed in the 'forums' directory, change as needed. you can see it in action at: http://www.juot.net/forums/forum.php it's the last link under 'off topic' (since it is a search you'd need to register to see the results :/) EDIT: You can login with username: VB Visitor password: visit - You will only be able to view, not post. I just implemented it this weekend but so far the biggest complainers seem to like it. |
That query shows last 10 days for the entire site. Is there a way to limit it to just one forum and all child-forums of that one forum?

ahhh... you're right... I don't know how to limit it, or if that's even possible, :(

I came across a small edit that did this just the other day while searching for something. It was for an older version of vb -- like 3.0 or 3.5 or 3.6 or something.

Looks like it will do it but it will do it for all forums with subforums on your site- may or may not be an issue. |
FYI- I also made a mod that does this: Master Forums / All Topic - Show threads from multiple forums in a single forum.

Why not CYB - Last Post Info Enhancements ?
