.com and .net domain prices increasing...

Hiya everybody - I've just gotten an email from NameCheap regarding the .com and .net domains. Both .com and .net domains will have a price hike as imposed by Verisign. The new prices will begin on July 1, 2010.

Just thought I'd share the info. See the email text below ;)

Dear Valued NameCheap Customer,

On July 1st, VeriSign will be raising the prices for all registrars for .COM and .NET domains. Unfortunately, this decision impacts us and all other domain name registrars, and as a result, we will be raising the cost of all .COM and .NET domains on that date to $9.98 plus $0.18 in ICANN fees.

We highly encourage you to buy any domains you need or renew your domains before June 30, 2010 if you wish to add another year to your current expiration dates at the current low rate.

As always, you can get help from us immediately through Live Chat or by creating a support ticket, and you can get the latest NameCheap updates through Twitter and Facebook.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your support.

Sincere regards,
NameCheap Team

They are making a decent amount of money even w/Verisign's price increases. They are charging $3 +/- more than their base cost for .com, and $5 +/- more than their base cost for .net:

As of July 1, 2010, the registry fee for .com domain names will increase from $6.86 to $7.34 and that the registry fee for .net domain names will increase, from $4.23 to $4.65.
I use Fabulous, they're cheaper and a better registrar imho :)

Never heard of fabulous.com until now - Everyone I've talked to recommended namecheap for domain registration - So - you're saying even with the verisign increase that fabulous.com is offering their .com/.net domains for $7.34?

That's incentive enough to switch registrars IMO - how long has fabulous.com been around Eric? Are they quite reputable?

Because saving $2 on domain renewal/purchase if you have a LOT of domains can mean significant savings!

The prices I posted previously are what the registrars pay to Verisign per domain. So you pay $9.89 to Namecheap for a .com, Namecheap pays Verisign $7.34 of that.

As far as Fabulous, they use Tier's - it's all about how many domains you own. But even at their highest price, they are cheaper than Namecheap.

The only thing with Fabulous is unless you email them asking for a wholesale account (and providing a sample list of your current domains), you pay out the arse with their "retail pricing".

They are quite reputable though, and very secure. They've been around for 13 years I think?

We will not increase my domain prices, we haven't since we have been in business 5 years now!

Most webhosting services try and compete, though, there are some that will just offer them free as part of a continual service :)

I have not really noticed these goin up in price, though, I have noticed the fees have slightly increased over time :(

it's good that domain price on godaddy and domainsite doesn't change yet.

I've always liked godaddy for my domains, you can find coupons all over and a domain for 10$ a year is fine with me anyways.

btw, Chopsuey, what's the .xxx extension have to do with the OP?
