Default Style And Image Directories

I'm trying to port an old theme into Vbulletin 4.0 using the default style that ships with it. My old style used .gif images. I noticed in the stylevar area, you can specify the image directory for certain images. For some reason, the default style wants to ignore the image directory paths I put in. And when I do have them saved, the images don't even load. It says it can not find the image on the server. What do I have to do to get all of my old style images to work in VB 4 with the default style? Also, why is something as trivial as images this difficult?

vbulletin 4 uses mainly PNGs.

vb3.8.x uses gifs.

welcome to my nightmare. I had to download all the old images, and I used photoshop to rename all of them.
(yes I realize I could've used a replacement var but I'd rather keep the code as clean as possible)

hint, for every image there seems to be 3 or 4 that need to be made. so if you want everything to be the same size image, just save the same image under all the names. (40b, 30, etc)

You'll either have to convert your images to .png and rename them to match the calls in the templates, or go through the templates and look for the calls for the icons and rename them.

Thanks for the help. Which do you think would be easier? I know you can't answer the next question but I find it dumb that the VBulletin team forces the PNG format down our throats. If I put in an image directory path, it should use the images within them regardless of what format they are in.

No the call for the status icons is hard coded in. Look in the forum templates. Forumhome and forum display templates have .png images calls hardcoded in. It's just gonna be quicker to get IrFanView and do a batch conversion. You may lose the transparent corners though.

photoshop converstion doesn't have that problem. (losing transpartent corners that is)
