Mark as Installed.?

What exactly does that do, or mean to anyone.?

I understand it shows who has installed a mod, style whatever, but im curious as to why it is so important to the developer..?

I've seen words like "Support" & "Fund Future Mods", etc.. But this is only a small detail that gives a slight look at how popular a mod is correct.? Or am i missing somthing.?

Do mods that have more installs get something in return.?
Do mods with less installs get less... I dont know what they could possibly get less of. lol
They're strictly volunteer.!?

Or is this kind of like YouTube videos.. A small bit of fame for having more subscriptions, or views.? (or am i misssing something there also.?)

Just curious. :)

Some developers care because it gets them more coder points (or whatever those are called). I just think it's the smart thing to do so you can easily find them again in your Installed Modifications list.

Many coders do NOT provide support for users who haven't clicked the install button. It means they are a true licensed customer to vBulletin and are legally downloading hacks.

Clicking install means you will receive updates about the modification, so you can be protected all the time. It's generally a good idea to just click install to receive updates.

Quoted from the Downloaded Mod PM you receive of downloaded, but not marked as installed modifications:
Quote:

* It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications may be notified by the author whenever new updates are available.

* For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to our attention.

* Marking a modification as installed also helps the author know how many people are using their work, giving them extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications.

That is fake reasoning, unlicensed members can also not post in a modification thread or sent PM's, so anyone asking in the modification thread for support is already licensed, regardless if they clicked installed or not.

I knew there had to be something else to it. :)

Anyways, i always mark as installed :D

Its a good thing. To keep track of what you have installed on your board.

Yeah was thinking that. Alot will not give support if you do not click installed, but the best reason to click installed is to get any important updates on the hack or any security fixes that the developer may put out there.

(From the monthly downloads reminder)

What does 'Marking As Installed' do ?

* It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications may be notified by the author whenever new updates are available.

* For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to our attention.

* Marking a modification as installed also helps the author know how many people are using their work, giving them extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications.
