Upgrading from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3 question regarding reverted templates

I need help doing this.

Every time there is an upgrade, there are "templates that need to be reverted". In the latest update these include the header, forumhome, forumdisplay etc., which are all heavily edited templates for me.

So am I basically screwed every time there is an upgrade in that I will have to revert all the templates and then re-do all these edits for my mods? So there basically is no way around this?

Thanks in advance.

It's been this way for as long as I can remember.

Depending on the edits you are doing, you might be able to move some of them into plugins and have it do the edits on the fly.

Custom plugins don't get overwritten with an upgrade so if the part of the template you are editing isn't changed the plugins will work without having to modify again.

There's Template Modification System which tried to make this easier, but so far I'm not convinced it works with vb4.

This is why I try to avoid mods that require template edits. It's bad enough if you have one style, but multiplied if you have more than that.

For the 4.02-to-4.03 upgrade, I had 7 templates that required reverting, or at least review of the merges. The upgrade script merged my old template edits with the new templates and I was able to check them all and IGNORE the warnings.

I was worried about this myself, but so far so good and no reverting required.

Hello guys thanks for the responses.

So War Frog, you did not revert the templates they asked you to? (ie. Forumhome, Header, Forumdisplay etc?). Any downsides to not reverting?

You could also either see if they work in the new version or just go into debug mode and redo all the edits either way there is no easy way around.

You guys think its even worth upgrading to 4.0.3? Seems like there are a lot of bugs still. I hate constantly upgrading. 4.0 to 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 blah blah I stopped right before all the patches. I'm thinkin I may just wait for 5.0. :)
