World of Warcraft Wowhead Item tooltips for vBulletin

1 Attachment(s)
** Discontinued thread https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=183035 for current thread in 3.8 modification areas.

Since Wowhead (and thottbot) have both released an easy method of adding item tips to your website.

http://www.wowhead.com/?forums&topic=3464&p=35822

I then created this mod to be able to easily add this functionality to any vbulletin installation without uploading external files.

The inspiration for this mod comes from https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=141177 , Gryphon gItemStats mod.

Instead of spamming his thread with xml files of this hack, i decided to post here so that people can take full advantage of it, get notices of updates, etc.

Changelog
  • 0.7.5
    • Removed old vbulletin option
    • Updated URL
  • 0.7.4
    • When Item ID is used without a piped option (i.e. [item=12345|lang]Item Name[/item] ) , the default language was never set and rendered all item tags after invalid
  • 0.7.3
    • Added changes provided by sub_ubi, thanks

To Do
  • Export functions from the init_startup hook so that it may be used in other scripts like EqDKP by including the global.php vbulletin file

Also sent this question via PM, but reposted here for posterity's sake:

These style links are now horribly broken. In fact, when introduced in an otherwise normal item link list such as:

[item]Bijou's Belongings[/item]
[item]12345[/item]
[item=12345]Bijou's Belongings[/item]
[item]Bijou's Belongings[/item]
[item]12345[/item]

Not only is the [item=12345]Bijou's Belongings[/item] entry returning orange brackets, but all valid item links below that entry in the same post are broken as well.

Can you think of any reason why this may be occurring and what a possible fix might be? We currently have around 3,238 posts affected by this issue and, short of doing a search/replace with some combination of PHP and SQL scripting, don't have a solution to get these malformed links working again.

Thanks so much for the quick fix Sweede! Everything is now working as before.

I tried to add custom bbcode so users could highlight the item, and get the tags inserted around it, but that seemed to break it.. what parameters should I use in the custom code?

you dont need to upload any external files with wowhead anyway :S

I'm still having an issue with the invalid item links (e.g. [item=12345]Bijou's Belongings[/item]). Although I upgraded to 0.7.4 and regenerated the post cache, those style item links are still returning invalid.

If I edit a post with an invalid item link, change nothing and save, the item link is magically working. It sounds to me like there is something wonky going on with the post cache.

Any ideas?

I had this issue before, i'm pretty sure the answer is in my vb 3.6 thread (follow the link in this post to the previous mod which links back to the previous 3.6 mod)
