What exactly is .htaccess
 
I see this referred to in a lot of mod threads, and cannot find anything on my server that I would think it would be. I need to edit the file (wherever it is) in order to install the Custom SEO URL mod.

It is for setting configuration options for the Apache web server.
Its useful when you are on a shared server where you can't change the httpd.conf file.

Is there any .htaccess file for vbulletin specifically? I don't have one of those files for my site, as far as I can tell.

Some people mentioned it being in the do not upload folder in the vbulletin installation, but there is no such file in there either.

you just make a file called htaccess on your comp and rename it to .htaccess when it is on ur server
It is not made just for vb

it is very useful

it can be used to
IP ban
password protect
deny access
allow only certain IPs to enter
make ur forum SEO friendly
etc.
