Site Slow
 

Guys what exactly slows a board down besides Sigs, Avatars, and big flashy headers? Do attachments or thread count affect this? My site is going noticably slower and we're at 70,000 threads and climbing with 2200 members. on average about 60 members are on at any given time, with minimal attachments.
Are attachments, threads, smileys, just storage unless they are being viewed or downloaded, or is them just being there helping to slow site?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

A few things in my experience can slow a forum down. Now it should be noted I do not own Vbulletin 4 and my knowledge of its internal workings is slim but I think that some of what I have to say will still fit.

Everything you said does play a roll in slowing your forum down, I would suggest setting smaller limits on all 3. When it comes to attachments, threads etc I would suggest you that you repair/optimize your database tables. The option can be found in Admin CP > Repair / Optimize Tables

Also just thought of this how many mods do you have installed as these will add more load on the server and database.

5 to 10 mods and the cyb chatbox probly the biggest draw I would guess....

If possible I would see what mods can be done with template edits and then make the change to the template edits. If that is not an option, I would try disabling mods one by one to see which ones would slow the forums down the most.

for the chat box try changing the flood time (time between users ability to post) that may have some effect but i'm not sure.

I did everything to make it faster but nothing happened...

I even fixed the templates and get rid of the round corners...

This VB4 is a dissaster...

I am waiting for the 4.0.3 update, if it is not solved i am going to leave the VB...

Because i am bleeding now, loosing so many members and can't do anything about it !!!

vb4 need more RAM than VB3
and that right that this VB4 is so slow compare to VB3.
i feel sorry to because upgrading vb3 to vb4.

Change your Styles so that they're stored as files on your server.

^^^ this. coincidentally I just did this yesterday and the speed improvement is quite noticeable.
