How do you enable the avatars in the CMS widgets?

I can't seem to enable the avatars in all the "Recent posts, comments etc" widgets for CMS. I have usergroup permissions that allow avatars but they just don't show up in the CMS widgets besides in the blog area. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
