Change pageview according to permissions

Hi all. I am wanting to customize my index.php in VB4. It will be offering various services...no CMS or Forum info will be there.

What I am wondering: is there a way to dynamically change this information according to which permission (user) group someone is a part of?

I understand a little php, but am confused as to how I would define the "<if>" statement. I will be using some custom permission groups (not that standard Registered, banned, etc.) and I want for them to be able to "upgrade" depending upon what group they are in.
