Add form / application for new Signups

Is there a way to add a page to the sign up process that is essentially like an application for new users? I would like to have a form that allows a user to say how they discovered the forum.

I would also like the form to include their occupation and website in addition to their twitter account if they have one before joining. Basically a form that allows me to gather more information about the user as my site is invitation only.

Is there a way to do this? If so, how can I go about getting this setup. My php knowledge is minimal, so I would need step by step instructions if so. Dont worry, I am a quick learner. Thanks!

make new profile fields and set them to [required - yes, always]. that way it'll show up on the registration page.

do you know where "other" is as offered in the user profile manager?

I would like the information that a user inputs upon sign up to only be visible by admins. by having the "other" option selected, does anyone else have access to this? which is basically my question, where or what is this "other"? thanks.

Do you want to see certain profile fields which other members cant see? I mean keep some fields hidden and viewable by admins alone? If yes, when you add a new profile field, keep it as 'hidden' by Private Field? - Yes. Hope this helps.
