Forum Running Slow - MySql Problems?
 

I started a forum about two months ago. Everything has been setup and running, but lately the forum has been delaying by 15-60 seconds between pages. Currently shared hosting through GoDaddy. I have been on the phone with them daily and not getting anywhere. The forum has ~500 members, 150 on daily with 20-30 online at a time normally. It doesn't matter how many are signed on at a time, it is sometimes slow when only 4-5 are on.

I was talking with a friend tonight and comparing numbers with one of his sites. When I went into: Maintenance->Diag->MySql Status, my numbers are HUGE compared to his. My site has been open two months and his has been for two years. Some of my numbers are 10x what his are. I am not sure if this is the problem, but it is a start.

Any suggestions?

also you need to move all images and attachments to the file system, they are defaulted to being stored in the database.

What do you direct them outside of the database?

20-30 concurrent users is about the limit for shared hosting. But I agree you want to move attachments to the file system if they aren't there already. Still, I suspect something else is at play here - like server load, which you don't even mention.

Per the host, I am using less than 2% of what I am allowed.

Two questions...

#1 - The numbers that I have in the list of Mysql status. Is there a listing of definitions on what those are? Is there a way to reset those or do they even matter?

#2 - How do I seperate picture from the db?

Nobody knows what all that crap is on that SQL page. I never even knew the page existed before I read your post. What you should be concerned with is your server's CPU usage. That 2% figure you cite has nothing to do with anything either. Look on page 1 of your AdminCP and make sure the CPU load is never more than 1.0 per CPU.

Try asking for a mysql server optimization request over @vb.com

I didn't think server optimizations were possible on shared servers?

You cant optimize a shared server, not unless its a vps/dedicated.
