forumbit height & layout
 

Hiya!
total noob question here:
just inherited a small but thriving board, my predessessor upgraded to 4.01 and the members are moaning about the new layout,
i'm ok on css & have checked stylevar, but i havent been able to work out how to sort this out:

using vb 4 default style (we don't have forum descriptions or sub forums), the forums on the front page look like this:

loads of wasted space

what i want is for them to look more like this:

not so tall, so that we can see all 8 forums on the front page without scrolling
(btw, i know how to change the image size with stylevar, that's easy!)

loving getting to grips with vb backend, many thanks in advance for any tips
