Some members report smilies panel incorrectly sized

1 Attachment(s)
Hi folks -

I installed 3.8.2, with the default style and no add-ins/hacks at all.

A few of my members are now reporting that in the post reply (advanced) menu, the smilies panel is "running off the end of the page"

I am not able to replicate this error using different resolutions or browsers.

I also could not find anything specific to this issue when searching here or the web.

Does this ring a bell with anyone here?

thanks and best regards -

mqqn

You're on a widescreen monitor, and the persons reporting this are on standard screen monitors. That's why you can't see it.

The problem is that some of your smilies in that box are wider than others, which throws off the vBulletin default smilie box size. For example, the dancing balloon smilie is a lot wider than a simple :) smilie; also, any smilie holding a sign is wider than a default vBulletin smilie.

There's a couple of ways to fix this:

a) AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> Message Posting Interface Options, set the Smileybox Total to a lower number (you currently have 32 -- 4 rows of 8 per your screenshot), AND set the Smileybox Per Row to a divisor of the Total (you currently have 8). What this will do is reduce the number of smilies displayed at the editing screen itself; additional smilies will be under the [More] link. If you're not sure what numbers to put here, use 16 Total and 4 Per Row, then adjust after your members give you feedback.

b) AdminCP -> Smilies -> Smilie Manager -> (select your smiley group for default emoticons), adjust the smilie display order so that vBulletin default smilies are first, then small smilies that are roughly the same size as the vBulletin default smilies, and larger smilies are toward the end of the list. What this will do is display smaller smilies first, with larger ones displayed under the [More] link.
