Unable to install syles/skins

After I upgraded to 4.0 (now 4.0.1), I am unable to install any new styles.

I contacted vbulletin about the problem (and some other problems) and they said "There is no problem on the vB4 end regarding third-party styles,. Any problems you are having have to do with those styles".

When I install a style, the only thing that changes is the banner logo at the top of the forum and the read/unread post images. Nothing else changes. There are no red X's to indicate a missing image file or anything like that.

Here is a 4.0.1 style I installed, only the 2 images work... the color stays the standard VB colors. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=228561

Just to make sure it wasn't just an issue with this skin, I have also tried all the styles on the first 2 pages of the styles section. Same issue with everyone of those styles as well. I know there is some issue with 4.0 styles on 4.0.1, so I also tried all the 4.0.1 "ok'd" styles. Same problem.

Anyone else having this problem? Any thoughts on a fix... maybe I have some setting wrong?

Did you try this with the styles in the file system and not in the style system? Did you try Rebuilding the Style Info after installing it? Can you see the changed colors in the stylevars for the style you import? What settings are you using when you import the style?

I installed the XML with the Import Style XML File page (admincp> styles and templates> download / upload styles). Im lost on the style system vs file system question? I rebuilt the styles many time to check, also ran the rest of the tools to make sure. I looked in the stylevars and they are not the same as the standard VB stylevars. I assume they are changed.

That looks correct, although you may want to change Ignore Style Version to Yes just as a test.

Check vboptions > style & lang > Store CSS Stylesheets as Files. Change that and see if it makes a difference.

That worked kinda. The background and some of the images have changed. Thanks Lynne!

Anyone have any other thoughts on this?

Lynne's idea helped, but only about 50% of the style changed, the forum main page is still the blue and white of vbulletin.

Are you using a style created for your version of vbulletin? Several stylevars have changed and if you aren't using a style for your version, then the stylevars won't do what they used to do on the previous version.

Im using blackwhirlwind and it says its for vB Version: 4.0.1

Everything on the outside of the forum works, all the inner parts dont change.

Are you sure...
- the images are in the correct directory?
- the directories are readable by the public?
- can you put a direct url to an image in your browser and see it?

Check the css templates (view page source and click on the links) and make sure they are from the new style.
