Editing special users in FTP

Yes excuse me I'm new at this but learning quick, I have been trying to edit some special users in the config file on the FTP server. For some reason it errors out when I make the changes. Last night I tried it just to edit a admin and give full rights including untouchable user, viewing ACP log privledges, pruning, superadmin rights and running queries. The database went corrupt and as always I had a a fresh backup and was backup quick. Any suggestions? Maybe going through C-Panel? I'm all ears and TIA!!!!!

Perhaps you are doing it incorrectly. Did you see the page in the manual about editing the config.php file? config.php

Yes sir its open to that page and know it well. I even asked a close friend and gave him login info to see if He could repair the problem and same thing. Thanks for the quick reply!

Are you using a text editor to edit the file? I mean, an editor made for editing text files - not word files, or fancy text documents, but a php editor that will NOT add extra unseen characters into the text file when you save it.

I can not think of any, intentional or not, change in the config.php that would corrupt your database. There should have been no need to restore the database, restoring the config.php should have been enough.

If your using cpanel, do not edit files with its file editor, it will add white spaces at the end of the config file.

Connect to ftp with a true ftp client, flashfxp, cuteftp etc, the editor by default will be notepad on your computer when you right click a file in ftp to edit it.
