avatars on CDN

I want to be able to set users avatars to a specific logo that pertains to their account. The users info is already set - there should be no ability for them to change it. I don't want to clutter up the DB with a bunch of redundant binary blobs full of logos like the customavatar table is setup. Does any one have suggestions no how to tie a avatar path to an account? Is there an existing hack for 3.8.x?
