Removing Categories?

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to remove the categories thats on the left hand side of the page

Now ive dont ALOT of searching.....................

The categories appear on the CMS, but NOT in the admincp

Also, i have deleted all the articles, so obviously there are no tags there

I have also run tasks, but the categories are still there!

What do i do?
