Help with domain/subdomain question

I feel like a complete newbie in this end of the forum world. First, I installed the forum software to the root folder - therefore I can't figure out how to move it to a folder called vb(401) so I can keep track of the versions I install. I'll figure that out later - something about being very precise where I installed the forum software, IIRC...

anyway, on to the real question:

sonomaweddingforums.com = root folder

I want to bring my photography website and host it on this server as well - essenceofimagery.com
Therefore, I created a folder called "essence" in the root folder. I placed the site files in a folder called "site". The other folder enclosed in the "essence" level (second from root) is called "portfolio".

so, www.essenceofimagery.com = sonomaweddingforums.com/essence/site

Now, I want to add a sub-domain for my portfolio of more recent wedding work (titled "portfolio")

Here's the question (pick which one is the correct answer, please...and avoid laughing too hard, because tech support couldn't give me a straight answer)

portfolio.essenceofimagery.com =

1. sonomaweddingforums.com/essence/portfolio

2. sonomaweddingforums.com/essence/site/portfolio

PS I would not use vb401 if this is a production site as this will mean that all your URL's will change when you move to 402, unless you create a public 'forum' that is a link to the current forum directory.
