New Posts Link

I've put a link to 'New Posts' on my main forums page. But is there a way that I can make the link to show the amount of new posts?

Example of how the link should look like:

No new posts:
New Posts

New posts:
New Posts (x)

How can I create such a link?

Paul M has a mod that does it like here - You have xxxx Unread Posts. I'm sure you could modify it to show like you want.
