Multiple boards, single database?

I have been trying to figure out for a while if there is a way to run multiple forum boards, but direct it to only 1 database.

I was maybe thinking that table prefixes could be individual for each board, but I have yet to try it. Any confirmation before I maybe destroy my boards?
