~ Top 5 Security Features To Have~

I'm about to launch my forum and wanted to know what would be the top 5 security features to have in my forum to protect it from hackers and spammers? Now I know that it can't fully be 100% secure or spam free at times but I wanted to to make sure that I do my best so that others would be willing to become a member.

Any help on this would be appreciated and all suggestions would be great. Thank you for your answers and your time.

A great start is here:

Secondly, I would advise, although it may not be practical for you that if you're to give admin access to anyone that you've talked with them via phone/skype some and know them as best as you can.

And don't get phished.

Thank you for your response on this topic. That was some great information for me to read over and make the changes to my forum, I wouldn't of known some of those to change. Much appreciated.

I know I was getting Spammers every day trying to sell they're cheap mexican viagra pills and what not. I installed cyb's advanced registration hack where you have to answer the question ex. 5+4=?. For whatever reason that didn't work, then I found out that I hadn't turned the hack on, now it works perfectly haven't had a spammer since.

The best security feature you can have is a smart administrator.

Along with the info above per http://dev.geekpoint.net/articles/vb...curity-tips-i/ (Thanks joshskeety) you should also rename your config file and move it ;) use the search here for rename config.

chmod as the link says and also htaccess protect all your folder with a redirect utilizing an index.html so all folders have an idex file AND a redirect back to your forums ;).

Also, the less mods the less likely to get hacked tbo but that depends on several factors. No matter what you move and or rename always.. ALWAYS leave a fake/dummy copy in place so they waste all their time on a useless admin or modcp lol and if you renamed and moved the config leave a dummy one up with fake yet real looking info :p.
