vB 4 adds backslashes to quoted posts

Regular posts with quote marks show up just fine, but if somebody *quotes* a post with quote marks, they show up as \' or \".

This was never a problem before the upgrade, so I'm baffled. Does anybody have any idea what might be going on, especially given that it's only a problem that affects quoted posts?
