best way to merge sub fora?

anyone got any advice on the best way to do this please? is it to move all threads using the moderating system and leave temporary redirects? to move them all via the admin cp? how does one do that?

When I merged a couple of forums, I just moved the threads using the admin cp (Threads & Posts > Move) leaving no redirects.
