profile tabs

can anyone tell me what part of the header code makes the profile tabs appear/disappear? I seem to have a problem with that...

Probably not the header code at all. You may want to look at the headinclude template though. Copy it somewhere (once you revert, you can't go back), then do a revert and see if it fixes the problem.
