From Ray's announcement - vBulletin Beta 3 Released to Customers with 4.0 Licenses:

Is there anything we should be especially careful of?

New, fresh installations have been relatively predictable, but we have experienced some potentially serious issues upgrading existing vBulletin installations, depending on customization, configuration and certain aspects your database. In particular, disable all of your plugins before attempting upgrades.
You did NOT disable your plugins.

I love your sense of humor (seriously, not sarcastically ;)) but please realize this has cost many on here very dearly including forums that had been around for years with thousands of members who never, ever ran backups and took it by chance at every turn. You cannot do that if your forum means something to more people than just you. A community is more than members it's a place to learn regardless of your "niche" but hey that's me and IMO. It's hard for me to come on here regularly and see the same sad stories because there's almost an answer and way to do anything with your forum either here or on vb.com as well :D.

Mike
