signup - chose group

I need to have new members select a group they will belong too, as a secondary group.
How can this be done?:confused:

They can go to their User CP and select a group. You could put up a Notice for them and give them the link to go choose a group - profile.php?do=editusergroups

But I like to make it a condition of the sign up process!

There may be a mod for that. Try a search. I know I've seen it discussed before.

Isn't there an inbuilt feature for that?
I remember seeing something along the lines of this "Allow user to choose usergroup on registration" or something like that.
