Test Site Thoughts

I want to upgrade from 3.6.11 to 3.8.x. Would it work if I just make another forums folder but named it forums2? What about the SQL tables? Should they have a prefix? I dont want to take 3.6 offline until I have 3.8 running 100%. They are both on the same server.

If you are setting up a test site, you should set up a new database to import the live database into. So, you will have one database for your live site, and then a second database for your test site.
