Modification edits main templates?

Sorry, another quick question.

I have a modification that needs to add one line to the postbit template.

How would I do this? Would it manually be done?

Could be? There are articles on how to make automatic template edits or how to use template_hooks, but sometimes the only way to do it is with an actual template edit.
