Issues With Quote Function
 

I've recently had an issue with the "quote" function on my forum.

Twice in the recent past I've had a poster quote another poster and the quote was wrongly attributed to a third party.

I'm hoping this makes sense...

If A, B, and C are posting on the same thread, A quotes B, but rather than the quote saying that person B made the post, it says that poster C made the post, but the words belong to poster B.

Both times this has happened (like I said, it's been fairly recently), the quoter says they absolutely did not quote the person the quote was attributed to and they have no idea how the wrong person's name was presented in the quote box. (It makes it appear that someone says something that they didn't)

Has anyone ever dealt with an issue such as this before? What do you think could be going on?

I've never heard of this happening before. I would guess some mod is causing the issue, but it doesn't sound like a real easy one to track down when you can't consistently get it to happen. Perhaps you can ask him if he can consistently cause this to happen and then get the exact steps from him.

This is a small board and this has happened with 2 different posters on 2 different occasions. Therefore, I'm not sure we could get it to repeat. It most definitely wasn't a moderator error.

Lynne didnt mean mod as in moderator, she meant mod as in hack/addon modification that you installed on the site.

:D I'm so frustrated with that quote problem I wasn't even thinking.

I hope someone comes along that has had a similar problem and they'll be able to give me some ideas.

To troubleshoot this, please remove any hacks and disable your plugins, then see if you still have this problem.
Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

If so, reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server.

If your problem still exists, please create a new Style with no Parent set. Now browse the forum using this new style, do you still have the same problems? If you are troubleshooting login or guest issues, you will need to set this style as board default in the vBulletin Options.
