Can the VB subscription feature be modified?

I understand that the VB subscription feature is just for subscriptions. But, this is what I want to do.

Collect a one time membership fee from my clients, then have them subscribe monthly to my support forum using PayPal and the VB subscription feature.

Is there a VB modification that would let me do this?
