how do i put an icon before the name of individual forums?

hello there.

i was wondering how can i put an icon before the name of any individual forum?
for example if i have a cricketing forum, there is an icon of ball and bat before the forum name "Cricket" and if it is a sports arena then have a basketball icon etc.

if it is a war game forum then it could have an icon of a gun or something.

can someone help me to find if this is a mod or a hack?

thanx

Your Forum title may include html, I am pretty sure. So, try adding the image code into the forum title. (Try this on a test site first to see how it looks.)

by the way can you guide me to a tutorial kind of thing where i could leanr how to establish a test site and run it?

thanx

i did try that. i used the following html code:
Code:

<img scr="http://www.myforum.com........."> Name of the Forum
however, the image did not appear.
i have checked that it is not accepting bb codes.
only html codes.

lynne can you please please tell me the right codes?
thanx

<a href="http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252648" target="_blank">Step by Step: Create a test forum based on a 'snapshot' of your live one</a>

I just tried it on my test site and it does work to put the image code in before the forum name in the Title box in the Forum Manager. What code did you put in there *exactly*? (And, it's src, not scr)

Nadeemjp 09-10-2009 10:53 AM

oh i am sorry actually it was the same code, as you metntioned i mistakenly put scr instead or src.

ok it does show here.

but i have seen on other forums, that there is a column between forum name and the forum icon (where it shows whether any new post is made or the forum is locked etc).

do you happen to know that?

one more thing, the current icon is very close to the forum name. how do i put some space between the icon and the forum name?
i am using the following codes:

Code:

<img src="/forums/sup.gif" border="0"> Admin Announcements
--------------- Added [DATE]1252584056[/DATE] at [TIME]1252584056[/TIME] ---------------

you can check its appearance @ www.familybunker.com/forums/ as well as @ http://www.familybunker.com/forums/admin-announcements/

If you want it to show where the icon is for new, locked, old, etc then that is in Forum Manager > Prefix for Forum Status Images.
Quote:

Forum Status images are usually shown alongside the forum in a forum listings to indicate the read status.

This prefix must only contain alphanumerical characters, though the following are also allowed - _ / ., a folder name is also acceptable to be placed within the status icon directory.

The following images are currently in use for status icons, you will need to create images with the specified prefix to match.
  • forum_link.gif
  • forum_new.gif
  • forum_new_lock.gif
  • forum_old.gif
  • forum_old_lock.gif

If you want more spaces in your code, use a non-breaking space - &nbsp; - or for two - &nbsp;&nbsp;

We have this on our forums, it is as Lynne said quite easy to do.

Essentially we create 2 gifs, prefix_new.gif and prefix_old.gif 30 px x 30 px I believe ( slightly wider for the prefix_new version

Say we have a forum called The Barbie, in manage forums, we click on that forum, and in Style Options add bbq_

Where bbq is the prefix for our images, see below attatchment

These are found here:
http://www.yobromofo.com/forum/image..._forum_new.gif
http://www.yobromofo.com/forum/image..._forum_old.gif
http://www.yobromofo.com/forum/image..._forum_new.gif
http://www.yobromofo.com/forum/image..._forum_old.gif

Then just do the same for each forum, its really quite simple.

We use Photoshop.
Transparent Gif, or I think Shelley would advise better using matt.

You can search google for icons, iconarchive.com is a good start, so is famfamfam.

Then just adjest them accordingly, you are welcome to visit our forum, and see ours .

Regards Ste ( if you get stuck, let me know what theme you want and I will make you some )
