Opt-in forum?

I have a forum I would like to make an Opt-In... so that the members will need to go to User CP, Group Memberships to join but they wouldn't need to wait for approval. I've seen in on some other vBulletin forums, I'm not sure how to do it though.

When you create the usergroup, set Public (Joialbe) Custom Usergroups to Yes. If you don't set any moderators to approve the members in the group, then users can just join it without approval. (If I recall correctly - it's been a while since I've played with it.)
