vb.org Archive - Multiple Last Post Entries

I'm sure someone knows how to do this but I have searched the forums and I can't seem to figure out what the right search term is for this. Here is what I want to do. I want to have a category to the left and on the right where the last post is listed I want to show the last say 3 or 4 post for that category.

When it only shows the last post there may be other good topics that novice users don't know exist because they don't click the category to see what all is listed there. So a great post thats 20 mins old can get shut down by a poor post that is 2 mins old.

Anyone feel me here?
