Hi

When we want to Ban an IP addresee we just put the Ip addrees in the box ( admincp )
just as it is , or allways in () .

Its important to know because i add tha ip for axable 123.45.678.9
but some users with ip 123.45.876.8 were badded.

Why no the specific only 1 ip was not banned??

How to make it to ban only the 1 ip i set .

As an admin of my forum i use admincp - then USer Banning options - and in the box i added the iP address. The question is again , do i need to use ( ) or just the IP address without the ( )

He's asking you to copy and paste the contents of the I.P. Banning list into a post here. Presumably so he can look and see what (if any) mistakes you might have made. I can only assume he asked you to use code tags so that guests can't see the list.

Just taking a shot in the dark though.

(oh, and I just put the IP Addresses in with a space inbetween. I never use () but I'm not sure if you're supposed to or not. )

Correct, except for the use of the code-tags. That is more to get a readible list, especially if the list is very long (i have seen board with thousands of IP's in the list, and 1 small typo caused ALL ip's to be blocked, so even admin could not get in anymore).

Dang... I was close though... I didn't consider the list being all that long since mine isn't but a dozen or so.

An IP-ban is usefull if you have 1 returning visitor on a fixed IP that will not try to avoid the ban by using proxies. It can also be used to block entire countries, but a .htaccess is better suitable for that.

But i see many boards with endless lists of IP's probably adding the IP of each banned user, which is useless, uses a lot of extra memory (is stored in the datastore and loaded on each page into memory), impossible to maintain/administer and open for typo's.

If usefull then for subnets, but hardly for individual IP's. But this is a personal opinion.

I see, thank you all for youe help. The thing is that i have only 2 IP address untli now its not a big list mbut its clear for me.

Hi , Iam replying again to the same problem. I believe something is not right.

See the list of my banning IP

a few new users were registered and they were automatically banned. I have checked their IP and notice that eighter was started like 94.69 or just from 94.

Also check if that IP was used again or if there is regitragion with the some IP but there is nothing.

What am i doing wrong?

That mean that anyone that tries to make a new account and his IP starts from 94 will be banned??
