can you put words underneath the avatar?
 

Is there a way to make it so that members can put words beneath their avatar, like a little quote or something (whatever they want)?

If a User Title is not what you are talking about (usually those are short), then you may create a User Profile Field (see the manual linked in my sig) and then add it to your postbit (search "profile" in "articles" "titles only" to find an article on how to do that).
