vb.org Archive - thread-specific Announcement ?

We've got a situation where we'd like to have thread-specific Announcements, so the Announcement would appear at the top of the thread page no matter which page of the thread you were on, rather like Polls do.

Anyone know of a hack that'll do this?

I remember doing it on a vB installation at a previous employer's site but I'm wondering if that was a custom hack that the tech guy there cooked up for us.
