Hide as much profile information from google/random visitors as possible
 

Hi,

I was wondering if there is some sort of mod or maybe a standard feature that lets me hide as much details about the persons on the board as possible?

A lot of people complain that, when searching on their username (which is often also their website name), our website shows up way to high in the google rankings. This is a reason for a lot of people to change their username or have their accounts deleted.

Therefore we would like to hide as much information as possible (not the actual threads & posts off course), but things like the username (which would be changed to a random name, but still consistent), age, aim details (or are they hidden by default?), post counts, etc.

I know that it would need well thought-out system to get the 'random usernames' to work, but maybe there's someone out there who has given it a lot of thought and made a mod already ? :)

Have you tried a simple robots.txt? :rolleyes:

And that would also automatically remove the postbits etc ? ;)

Using a robots.txt stops search engines from looking in the areas specified. It will basically not search member.php (or the query strings after it), thus stopping your members details being indexed.

But, as far as I know the postbit's arent generated from member.php, so all the info that appears next to a post is visible.

If you don't want certain things in the postbit to be viewable by google/unregistered users, then you will have to put conditions around the info to not show it to guests. There is not default vb option to click to just not show it to guests.

I have the same problem too.
This is very bad , and they have to do something urgently about it
