Online business using Paypal??

Hi Guys

Wow have i had some problems with Paypal

I'll tell you a bit about what i do without promoting myself too much

I make componants for car Transporters, you know the big ones that get towed by lorries. My company has never had an online store before, so i decide nows the time, i finally got online on the 5th June. :D

now customers can order and pay online using paypal ;)

Thats where the problems begin

the first week i get mt new paypal account (a Business Account) limited as i've had a LOT OF MONEY recently paid in.

I contacted paypal and they told me i've had ?1,700 paid into my account, but my estimated weekly turnover was ?2,000.

I had to get my account Verified, so that took best part of a week

Then finally i get my account back, but before t can transfer the balance to my business bank bank account, they limit it again

Now they are asking for Proof of delivery, even though i have an account with a couier company :mad: and have my account limited for the past 8 days with over ?2,580 in it

Now at an extra expense (?50) i've had to set up a nochex merchant account and delete all traces of paypal from my site.

I've just got off the Phone to them, No one gives you a satisfactory answer, and i still need to wait for my account to get back to normal, I told the lady i wanted to close my account and have all the funds sent to my business Bank account.

These guys are a bunch of crooks, anyone else having problems with paypal?? They seem to be a law unto themselves, making up the rules as they go along, I'm definately not happy with them at all. I've taken Paypal off my site completely now. What a nightmare, i really expected a bit of a more professional service from Paypal, all i get is poop

Anyone have any Paypal Horror stories they'd like to share?

might cheer me up if i know i'm not the only one ;)

p.s. Anyone have a UK address for these Crooks, I'm going to send them an invoice.

Its only bad at first when you're setting it up...smooth sailing from then on.

Oh and another thing. Pull the money out as soon as you get a purchase. Like that they can never hold your money.

I always hear of people that have thousands frozen in there, so learn from others mistakes. You get an email saying someone bought something, log in every night and withdraw it all.

I've never had a problem with them, but I've heard of many horror stories. I'd get a proper merchant account from your bank, and use someone like SecPay or WorldPay. Or if you want a fantastic API to work with, use Google Checkout :)

Thanks Dean ;)

To be honest mate, i've done everything Paypal have asked for Its them dragging their heels and taking forever, whilst all this is going on, I'having to dip into my savings so that i can get the goods out to my Customers.

To me Paypal is stealing my money, until i get it back, makes me so angry.

Do paypal assume everyone is a scammer?? Do they not know by witholding customers money the goods will not get made and as a result the customer could incurr further bank charges late payments.

It would be illegal for a Bank to act in this manner, how can paypal get away with it??

I've paid ?50 for a merchant Account with Nochex, I spoke with a guy there last week and we went through all the account opening there and then, unlike paypal, when they need to know something they freeze your account

At least now customers can pay with their credit and debit card without having to open a paypal or nochex account.

Dean, Thanks again for your ideas mate, I did look at worldpay, and getting one from my bank, but they do charge and i've worked it out, with the fee's nochex charge, Its cheaper for me to use Nochex, I don't sell that much possibly once or twice a week, paying a monthly fee would not be cost effective as yet.

I've signed up to Google Checkout also, thanks for that

I've lost faith in paypal now, whilst its handy for the odd ebay purchase, anything else is a nightmare even if you've set up a verified business account with them.

So not sure who the real crooks are the scammers or paypal

Ultimately with these services you get what you pay for. With SecPay I used to phone up and speak to the same lady on the end of the phone whenever I had any problems. Much better than sending an email. She even let me speak to a developer to clarify a problem I had once too. You won't get that level of customer service with many other payment gateway providers.

UKBusinessLive 07-04-2009 07:21 PM

Yeah your not wrong Dean, Ultimately you get what you pay for, However i'm well impressed with Nochex, They interview you over the phone, i have my own account manager and a direct line. All the ID checks are done beforehand, and the proofs of ID sent to them before getting your account fully opened.

Which is the correct way of doing things as opposed to paypal freezing acounts when they feel like it. Loads of friends have told me to withdrawl my money from paypal imeadiately, because of the risk of having your account frozen and it could happen at anytime.

But that kinda defeats the object in a way, if you don't trust the company that you use to process your payments.

If business picks up, then yeah, i'll go for worldpay or secpay, a more professional merchant service, but i must admit Nochex is living upto my expectations already.

I've heard stories that Paypal can and will freeze accounts upto 160 days and some businesses have thousands in their accounts.

What a Bunch of crooks

Just read the Horror stories here http://www.paypalsucks.com/
