finding a way to prevent people from inserting links

Hi

I am looking for advice - if I can find a way to prevent people from inserting links in their posts?

Some even insert huge banners to advertise their software, sneakers, viagara etc. How they do this - I ain't got a clue and I don't like it.

Too many links and I have just had enough.

Please anyone?

Thank you very much :(

easiest way is blocking www i suppose

Ummmm... that's an idea. Will try and censor the www then and see how it goes.
Thanks

If you censor www, then you, yourself will not be able to put in links unless you make your admin account override the censor system. Or find a mod that doesnt allow members to post links until they have a certain amount of posts, most bots just post once and then quit.

I don't think they're bots. I think it's just one or two individuals who keep on coming back with a link that goes to a site that contains malicious script that automatically infects my forum. My forum registration numbers have shot through the roof recently, so it could be from people from competing sites, but not certain 100%.
Google has even put up a warning against visiting my forum.
Personally, I don't mind members posting links to enhance discussions but if the system is abused then I am left with no choice...
You see the dilema I am in?

Yes I do. The only thing I can see to do would be to ban the members by IP with your web host along with your forum ACP. If you ban via web cpanel, they can't get around it except to use another internet or pc.

But, Blocking www will give yours members hell, but also think about how they can just simply leave off the www and still put the links, see what Im saying?

If I'm not mistaken, i do believe there is an option in the usergroups that you can turn off to disallow that group to post links. I'm not sure, but I remember using it on IPB, so not sure if VB will have it.
