Limiting guest usage
Is there a way that I can limit how much a guest can use or see and then requiring them to register or log-in based on;
1) pageviews 2) number of threads read 3) time spent on site Also, I wish to accomplish above, but I do not want to prevent bots from accessing all of my content any any given time. |
Search for "Limited" in "All Mods" with "Titles Only".

Thanx, I haven't gone thru all of the threads yet but I do hope to find a solution that will not prevent bots from crawling content.

Thank you!

I suppose you can have bots index only your archive pages, and not your forum pages.
There are plugins that will wrap an announcement/notice in a Javascript tag that search engines won't index. I suppose you could make an "obvious" notice that appears only to guests at that point. IMHO, content should be king - let users decide for themselves regarding registration. I've run sites that had mounds of useful information frequently accessed by lurkers. It may seem like folks are taking a ride, but traffic frequency isn't a bad thing, guest users can be a useful asset. |
