test forum on shared Server causing havoc

I have a clone test forum and and live forum. Since the lasted upgrade to 3.8 I have had probelme with test. I was not able to log into admin and I no longer had have a Forum page.

I fixed the log issue by chanaging the Cookie location to /testvb

I still no longer have a forum home page in testvb and do not know which file to edit to tell the link I want for my forum. Can someone help answer this.?

Also I am now having issues with my live forum including
.staying logged in and passwords not being remember even though that is checked.

.Another problem is my newest smileys are no longer showing in post even though they did work before I fixed the admincp log in issue for testvb

.also any signature that was editied in admin area and has html is showing up as code.
Can someone please tell me how to fix these 4 issues? thanks

You have a totally different database for your test account, right? And your config.php file points to the test database, correct? You also need to change a few things in vboptions > site name/etc > all the urls there. And, you may have to also change the paths for where your avatars/attachments/etc are stored (depending on how you wrote the path).

Lynn,

I think part of the problems is all forum files are in the testvb file there is no seperate file called "forum" so when I add testvb/forum to url it says there is no page. What should I do?

I do have a database setup for the cloned data, and yes the info is in the testvb config.php. I just cannot access it.

--------------- Added [DATE]1244480461[/DATE] at [TIME]1244480461[/TIME] ---------------

I shoulld say that I am using /testvb as my vbadvance homepage.

If all the files are in /testvb, then you shouldn't add /forum to the end of it. Or, create a /forum in /testvb.

so what is link for forum home page?

/testvb is vbadvance home page so that is not it

the testvb heompage is working fine but it is not the forumhome page. i am trying to access my testvb forum hompage

How doyou have your live site structured? Do you have vbadvance at index.php and then the vb forums in a forums directory? If so, you should do the same thing on your live site.

lynn,

That is why I am asking.. I do not know how to do what you are asking.

I know my live site has vbadvance files in the "forum " files

I know my homepage on my live site is vbadvacne and the url is the main domain "/" my forum home page is "/foum"

my testvb test website is a subdoamin of my main domain.

so my testvb vbadvance home page url is /testvb

Now all I need is a Forum home page for testvb website!! Thanks

You should create a directory inside of /testvb called /forum and put your vbulletin files in there. Then you would have /testvb/forum for where your test forums are.

Lynn,

According to Wayne on paid phone support I do not have to do this. He says I need to intall index.php from vbulletin again and rename because there is only index.php for vbadvacne. So who is right?? Thanks

Lynne 06-08-2009 10:53 PM

Well, do don't have to do it how I suggested, I just thought you wanted your test site to be laid out the same way your live site is laid out. If you want to have it all in one forum, then rename your vbulletin index.php file to something like forums.php and then enter the new name in vboptions > forum home page options > script name for forum home. Then you can name your vbadvanced page index.php.

(I am wondering if I am misunderstanding some of what you are writing. You keep saying the forums are at /forum and I assume you are talking about a directory, not a page.)
