www. and Publi_html folders

I was just looking at my file manager in my cpanel. I obviously have the public_html folder with is my root folder. I also have a www. folder. How is this folder populated and what is it for. I recently downloaded my whole Public_html folder just to have a copy on my local drive. Should I copy the www. folder as well? What is its function?

Usually one and the same. No need to copy www as well.
