What sets quickchooser?

I am having difficulty with the style quick chooser in the footer on my forum - basic problem is regular registered users dont see it, but moderators & admins do

I have searched this forum, and learned a heap about how this quickchooser works, but have not been able to crack it.

So I am running vB 3.8.1

My footer template is the standard one with no modifications

Allow users to change styles is set to yes in AdminCP

Regular registered users do not see the Forum Skin option under Options in UserCP either - admins & moderators do get to see it

What else sets access to change styles?

have you ticked the boxes allowing user selecting in the styles and templates menu in your admincp?

Yep, have 2 styles in there, the default and one we are working on, and both are ticked as selectable

does this issue affect your deault style or just your custom style?

It is the same in both styles

Do you have it turned on in vboptions > style options > allow users to change styles?

Well I did, but last night I turned it off and saved the change, and then turned it back on & voila - it works.

My guess is that as the option was initailly set on when the forum was first fired up (assume it is on by default), something in the database didnt match what was being displayed in AdminCP. Turning it off, saving, then turning on and saving again knocked it back into shape.

Anyway its working fine now so put that one down to experience.
