Getting Adsense to work well

Hey all, I was wondering if any of you adsense experts might be able to offer me a pointer or two here.

I have a website aimed a inert ordnance collectors , and for guests have several adsense spots. Trouble is getting relevant ads is something I'm really struggling with. They all seem to be aimed at personal protection/body armour rather than militaria collectables etc..

I've noticed if I append some variables on the URL relevant to what I really want the ads to feature then I get good results..

E.g. my site as current is this and you can see the fairly irrelevant ads..

http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum

now the ads I'd really want show up at the following when I apped keywords to the url..

http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/?a=mil...c=collectables

I've tried messing with meta keywords/descriptions etc but they don't appear to make bugger all difference..

So any advice here would be appreciated.. Thank you

wow, what people do for money
you are just hurting yourself with your layout/ads option

yea, you probably will increase your earnings for a while but it will eventually flatten; along with your registration, participation, and membership

about your pages not displaying relevant ads...
there's no content to parse. How do you expect Google to know which ad to display?

TIP:
1)__ insert relevant content before the ad
2)__ get a good SEO optimized style

Thanks for the arrogant comment.

It would be nice if folks could offer advice without attached attitude.

lol.. i would not call it arrogant, but sincere.. :)

No offence, but your forum looks terrible with the huge square ad's. I'd cut them down to small leaderboard banners.

The large ad's were a recent modification actually based on the link wayne_luke posted above.
They are displayed only to guests, and despite the irrelevance, have increased the general CTR of the site without throttling new registrations. If there was an impact, then I'd remove them.. I would like to see though how things go with ad's which are much more relevant before deciding to keep or remove them.

I would remove the borders around the ads and center tham
If you check my forum out, you'll see I have a similar setup (to guest only) and I get 90% of my clicks from those two ads under the navbar
you don't need the link ad in there, it isn't helping you any
this is a good tutorial that I would suggest you looking at

cheers and good luck

as far as the ads not showing the ones you want, you can add some google code in there to tell google what content is part of your site.
Let me see if I can find a link

here ya go

Thanks Loco.. yes it does look better centered & without borders.
PS. Thats a good site you have there.

You'll need lots and lots of traffic to earn anything even worth while with Adsense any more any way.
