UKBL ~ Guest/ New Registration Message Banner

Gain more Registrations and Welcome New Members with this Message Banner Mod.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/05/18.gif

I had a request to improve this https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=199417 and the end result is an animated 468 x 60 Gif banner which, when clicked will take members direct to the register page, Once registered they will be able to view the one message they have, which is set up in the admin cp as a welcome private message.

The general idea is to show it to guests and unregistered members and tempt them to sign up. Normal members and other usergroups will not see this banner.

So your still interested, lets roll :D

Installation

This is really easy, shouldn't take anymore than a few minutes

1. Download the zip file and upload the message1.gif to your /images/misc folder on your server, and upload the file, you can as well upload your file to a site like photobucket if you don't want to dabble too much with uploading to your server.

2. Open your the message.txt file in notepad as you'll need to edit a few bits (See below)

Code:

<DIV ALIGN=CENTER>
<if condition="is_member_of($bbuserinfo, 1, 3)">
<a href="http://www.ukbusinesslive.co.uk/forum/register.php"><img src="http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr16614/ukbusinesslive/message1.gif" border="0"></a></if>
</DIV>

The Parts in red are what you'll need to change, its pretty easy, the first part is the usergroup condition, just change this for the usergroups ID that you want the banner to show to, Second part is the Url to your sites registration page, and the final part is the url to the banner.

3. Go to tour ADMINCP> Vbulletin Options>Style & Templates>Style Manager>Your chosen style>All Style Options> Edit templates>Forumhome Templates>FORUMHOME

find

Code:

$navbar
and directly below add your code

Code:

<DIV ALIGN=CENTER>
<if condition="is_member_of($bbuserinfo, 1, 3)">
<a href="http://www.ukbusinesslive.co.uk/forum/register.php"><img src="http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/rr1514/ukbusinesslive/message1.gif" border="0"></a></if>
</DIV>

Thats it, next we need to make our welcome PM as our newly signed up members will wonder what was the message!! ;)

Just go to

AdminCP>Vbulletin Options>User Registration Options

Welcome Private Message is about half way down, Just edit the title and add the message of your choice, you could even add a promotion to a usergroup or explain any offers your site might have, either way, you need to reward your member for taking the time to sign up, and remember, he's on your board viewing as a guest, so he's definately interested in it, this way you've tempted him to take full advantage.

Don't forget once you've typed your welcome message to click the Yes radio button to enable the message to be sent to the new members.

Hope your registration rates increase,

As always please click installed and i'll help you 100%:D

it might work, it looks like one of those spammy advertisements tho, so not sure I would personally ever click on one. Have you noticed any rise in your registrations with this?

I made it for someone else, they sent me the banner ;)

You can use your own banner if you can come up with somthing better, post here by all means, the idea is to tempt non members to join, normal members will not see this so nothing spammy for them.

Guests and non registered will see less of the forum, an increase in ads and this message banner, can you blame them for clicking on it, even if its to be rid of all the ads and gain extra site content, the ability to post etc...

:D

Thats what it is. An advert to sign up.

Once signed up they won't see it anymore, plus they'll reap the rewards of full membership

Seems to me the key is creating your own unique banner. Something eye-catching that complements the look of your site and has content that piques the interest of a guest. The sample banner shown here is too formulaic for me---I'd probably not click on it myself---but the concept is sound.

Off to design a killer banner. :)

Thanks UKBL.
