Background images for profile customization.

I am using a 3rd party photo gallery and because of this have the regular albums disabled. I just noticed that when a member chooses a background image while customizing their profile page that it only works with the album images. Is there anyway to make it accept a normal url such as www.mysite.com/gallery/mypet.jpg
