How to make the show signature checkbox not auto-check

I found the exact question asked in 2008 with no answer. Ill try it again. Signatures are showing up even without the "show signature" box being checked. How do you disable this auto checking of the signature box. Or how to disable the signature from showing up without the box being checked. Running 3.8.2

Are you talking about in a default style? If you are using a custom style, maybe they removed any condition in the postbit regarding the signature.

I have mistated my question. I didnt realize that registered users do not have a "show signature" checkbox in the reply area. I need to add a "show signature check box so they can select or deselect using a signature at the time a post is being made.

I don't know of a mod to do that. Did you try a search? Otherwise, I suppose you could find the template and then remove the condition around it that makes it so that option is only shown to admins. Of course, you'll have to test that and see if it works and there aren't other checks in place that would cause the user to get an error or something (so try it on a test site or test style).

Im not the only one who can see the "show sig" checkbox. One of my moderators can see it. None of the rest can and none of the members as far as I know. What could be causing this. The box is supposed to be there for everyone right??? They should all be able to see it and select and deselect their sig??

The box doesn't show up for regular users on my test site, so I'd guess that it only shows up for mods or higher.

edit: I think it only shows if you have a signature. (My test user didn't.)

edit: Yep. I just added a signature to my test user, and now that box shows up.
