Importing 3rd Party plugins

When one installs 3rd party plugins via the admincp what directory are they usually stored?

Then the Plugins & Templates are normaly stored in the database!

The file that is uploaded is parsed, then discarded. While the data it contains is stored in the database, the file itself is not "stored" anywhere as a file.
