Twitter Over Capacity Error Message
 

I was thinking it would be nice to make something like twitter has ((Twitter Over Capacity Error Message") for my site/forum.

We do marketing campaigns and you never know if the news, digg, or something is going to feature you. It would be nice to be prepared for such an advent because it would be much nicer to see a message like that instead of a page can't be displayed error.

Anyone know the architecture behind this and how it can be achieved?

You can set the server load limit from the AdminCP that will tell them that the capacity is reached already

Note that server loads are measured for the whole server. So if you are on a shared account, it will measure the whole server, not just your own usage.

it's running on a two dedicated servers so i don't have to worry about the shared thing. :)

unrelated to vbulletin but is it easy to set that up for a regular site that isn't a forum. it's cool if you don't answer since it's not vbulletin related.

i guess it's a php script that detects server load and displays a message instead of running a query?

I actually think I remember seeing something along these lines in the 3.8 mod forum. Of course it would have to customized a little. But if remember it threw up an error page?
